My role here at Johnstone Supply is sales and technical support. I also do my part in keeping our Philadelphia location tidy. I have 33 years of professional experience that include sales, service, installation, and maintenance in residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC. I have also successfully worked with commercial refrigeration, the “R” usually at the end of HVAC. I attended 2 years of Vocational school while in high school and continued my education with a degree from Philadelphia Wireless Technical Institute and attained my NATE certifications from Delaware County Community College. I have also attended hydronic specialty courses over those years.
Prior to coming to Johnstone Supply, I worked for Septa in the facilities department for 9 years where I worked on a variety of products from chillers, cooling towers, and high-pressure steam boilers. I owned and operated my own business for 12 years before joining the Johnstone Team. I continue to learn every day and am always up for a challenge. I enjoy what I do and find the most passion in dealing with steam and hydronic heating and refrigeration.
Commercial/VRF, Continued Education
January of 2023 will mark the beginning of my 50th year in the HVAC industry. I started back in 1973 right out of high school working for a medium size residential contractor named ABCool Air Conditioning out of Turnersville NJ. After 11 years I moved on to Lincoln Technical Institute as an instructor, HVAC department supervisor, and Director of Education. While at Lincoln Tech I started my own small business, Petersons Air Conditioning; eventually going into business on a full-time basis growing to (6) employees and (4) trucks.
I decided to move on and sold my business in 2002 when I started at Johnstone Supply. As most of you may know, my current job duties center around training and technical support. My recent trade interest has centered around VRF and other high-performance inverter heat pump systems as these seem to be the direction the industry is heading. I’ve been fortunate to have good health and if this continues, I plan on working, in some capacity, well into my 70s and beyond. I really have only one area of interest outside of work and family, my hobby is competitive rowing. And on one last note, my family is very much involved in the HVAC industry. My lovely wife, Marie used to be a service manager at her father’s company (the aforementioned ABCool). My son Greg is a commercial sales rep at Limbach Mechanical and my brother Jim works for himself as an HVAC contractor. So, you might say it’s in my blood!
Commercial, Johnson Controls Start-up & Commissioning
SSE/VFD January of 2023 marked my 41st year in the HVAC/R industry. I began my career in 1982 while attending Tech school I worked at Tempcon after school and on weekends in their duct shop. After graduating from Lyons Institute, I started full-time doing installation & service. I worked there for almost 2 years before moving on to Alliance Company and after working there for several years I moved on thru the rest of my field experience to a couple of other companies ( Shamrock, Thrower, and AA Duckett ). The majority of my experience is on commercial rooftops with a strong background in the residential side.
I started at Johnstone Supply in 2004 at the counter in Cherry Hill for 7 years until I was promoted to Manager of the Vineland store. I was in Vineland for the next 8 years until the Bellmawr store was opened and I moved into my current role as the Commercial Specialist. I provide tech support and pricing for all of our commercial equipment and I have been factory trained from York up to 50 tons and I am able to provide factory startups. I also have spent 9 years working part-time at night at Pennco Tech and Camden County Vo Tech teaching HVAC/R. My oldest son Matt also works in this field and has been doing it for 12 years now. My interests outside work are hunting and fishing and I like to travel.
Ductless & Residential Diagnostics
After graduating from Haddon Heights High School in 1998, I briefly attended Camden County College. I left CCC to work full-time at a large property management company and also took on weekend work as an install helper for a family friend. My interest in the HVAC/R trade led me to attend and graduate from Pennco Tech in 2009. In the field, I had the good fortune to work for several outstanding local companies and benefit from the mentorship of exceptional service techs and business owners who generously shared their knowledge. My expertise grew in residential and light commercial installation and service, and I soon sought new challenges in commercial refrigeration, ice machines, industrial systems, and facilities management. I am passionate about sharing knowledge and thrive on embracing new challenges within the industry. While I am proud of my comprehensive expertise, my goal is to keep educating myself and staying ahead with the latest technology and equipment. The emerging era of inverter-driven equipment particularly excites me, and it's where I dedicate my focus within the industry. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, surfing, and bass fishing.
